Why is my 4-month-old puppy eating slowly and not finishing food?

Hi my kisses dont interest on her food. Every time I gave her a food she dont eat it fast. she eats it slowly. It takes an hour before she finish it sometimes she just eat small amount. What should I do? Her dog food is Pedegree. Its her food since then.

Some dogs are slower eaters than others, but I see that Kisses is four months old. This is the age when puppies are teething, and it could be painful for her to eat, causing her to eat slower or not eat all her food. Try soaking her food in warm water, or gently warmed low sodium beef of chicken broth to make her food softer. This may help encourage her to eat. If this doesn't work, then I would have her seen by a vet as a decrease in appetite can be a sign of a medical illness. Best of luck!

Instead of feeding her twice a day, feed her 4-5 times a day and smaller amounts. You may also want to try another puppy food which may be more palatable to her and might have a higher concentration of nutrients per cup, so that you can feed less than your present feed, but still give her the right amount of nutrition. Since she is 6 months old, and it is spring time, it is also possible that she is preparing for heat and may not be as hungry as usual due to hormonal changes. Sometimes teething also can hurt and make her want to eat less. Check her mouth for sores.

If only Sydney could talk! It could be related to her teething. You may try soaking the kibble in warm water until it is softer. See if she will eat it that way. Its also possible you are feeding her too much. Puppies eat a lot while they are rapidly growing but then the growth slows down and they don't need as many calories (although they are still growing). If soaking the kibble doesn't help or if she begins to show any signs of illness, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian and checked for parasites. My dog suddenly started to not complete her food she eats only half of the portion and when i go to her after 30 min she began to comete eating but i took the food didnt leave it why she is doing this suddenly??
If a dog suddenly goes from being a great eater to a mediocre eater or starts skipping meals I am usually concerned that there is an underlying medical issue. In Soska’s case specifically, this change in appetite and behavior may be due to the fact that at 9 months of age her rate of growth is beginning to slow down and she may not need as many calories as she did when she was growing much more quickly. I would continue doing as you are now, meal feeding her and removing the uneaten portion of food after giving her 15-20 minutes to eat it. Feed her at least twice daily. If her appetite continues to drop off and this behavior persists for more than a week or so, I would recommend taking her in to see your vet so you can be sure there are no medical issues going on. Poor Muffin! I'm not sure when you say she isn't eating well if she isn't eating a much as usual, or is having trouble eating. Both of those could be a sign of a medical illness, such as infection, systemic disease, or inflammation. It could also be a sign of teething. I would take her into the vet for an exam, it's not good that she isn't eating well. Eating enough is important for her health, and medical cause should be ruled out. I would make sure she is eating a puppy formulated food, and you can try to make the dry food more tempting by soaking it with gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth.

I see that Hazel is around six months of age. It could be that she is teething, and it is painful for her to eat. You can try offering her wet food, or you can soften her dry food by soaking it in gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth, or warm water. I would try these methods first, and if she still isn't eating a lot, then I would take her into the vet for an exam.

I'm sorry Brady isn't doing well at the moment! One possible cause of his eating issues is teething. He is at the right age to have teeth come in, and that will be painful to him causing him to not want to eat. I would try soaking his dry food in gently warmed water or low sodium beef and chicken broth. This will make his food softer and easier for him to eat. I would also recommend getting toys from a pet store that you can put in the freezer before giving it to him. The cold will be soothing on Brady's gums and it will allow him to chew on something hard which is helpful when teething. Also make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments, as that can lead to a loss in appetite. If he still isn't eating much in the next 48 hours after trying the home remedies I suggested, I recommend taking him into the vet for a health check. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi there and thanks for your question about snowball. It's good to know she is eating- okay if it's just a few bites at a time. If she is teething, then yes, this can cause her to be a little slow when eating her food or not finish it entirely. I'd keep an eye on her eating behavior and take her in to see your veterinarian if she is still reluctant to eat.

If she isn't vomiting, no diarrhea, and behavior is normal this could just be a simple change in personality as she is getting older especially if she is coming back later to finish her bowl of food. Some dogs are what I call "food hounds" and they gobble all there food at once while others are "nibblers" or "grazers" and they take their time to eat and they eat throughout the day. Sometimes a puppy starts out as one and changes to the other. If she isn't finishing her food throughout the day or there are another of symptoms then I would contact your vet for an exam to ensure there isn't more serious going on like an infection, foreign body, etc. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Schnitzel. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian today. Puppies typically do not refuse all food simply due to teething. I am concerned he has another health concern affecting his appetite. Is he experiencing any vomiting, diarrhea, coughing or sneezing? All of these can affect puppy's appetite. He could also be experiencing pain somewhere. In the meantime, continue to offer water to prevent him from becoming dehydrated. You can also try the canned food warmed up or mixed with warm water. The dry kibble can also be mixed with warm water. This can make the food more appealing. I hope this information helps!

If your puppy is not eating at all and this began within the last day or two, I would be very concerned about a serious medical problem - if this is the case, you should get him to a vet right away. Common causes of not eating in puppies would include parvo or intestinal obstruction, but almost any serious illness could cause not eating as a symptom so it would be hard to know the cause without an exam and possibly some blood work or x-rays. If this problem has been going on for a while and your pup is acting fairly normal otherwise, then yes - it's possible that he could have worms, or he may be a picky eater who would do better with a different diet. You could try deworming him with a dewormer labeled for dogs such as Panacur - you can get this over the counter at many pet stores, just follow the dosing instructions on the label for your puppy's weight. You may also want to try a different brand or flavor of puppy chow, or mix some canned puppy food in with his dry food to see if t
