My dog was kicked and can't walk. Her leg is inflamed. Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 30 lbs

My dog was kicked really hard in the back right thigh and leg and now she can't walk on it. She tries to a bit but only a couple steps. It also looks inflamed, is there anything I can do? Or should I just take her to the vet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to a soft tissue injury meaning that it is for example an injury to the muscle. However, this could also be a fracture which can be very painful. It seems like she is in pain so it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to proceed with radiographs and most importantly prescribe medications for pain control. Good luck and have a good night!

Oh no, poor Diamond! Definitely take her into a vet right away. If she was kicked really hard, there is a potential that a bone in her leg could be broken. She's clearly in a lot of pain of she can't walk on it, and there are no OTC pain medications you can give her. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. She needs veterinary care now, I would consider this a medical emergency. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
