Why is my dog not eating during mange treatment but still energetic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 9 days old | 44 lbs

Can a dog under mange treatment lose his apetite? He has recently been diagnosed to have the problem, and could eat not less than what he’s having for now, for two days no meal. But has had some LoveMe carrot treats, and nothing else. But he’s compeletly energetic and loves to play and run as he always did. PS He has no alopecia just because of 100% precise care i took for him.

Thank you for your question. As far as decreased appetite, that will depend on the method of treatment your veterinarian is using to treat the mange (there are numerous ways we now treat this disease), as some medications can cause decreased appetite or vomiting, but not all. I would recommend calling your vet and letting them know Heisenberg is having decreased appetite. It is possible it is related to the medication and they may want to switch or provide an appetite stimulant, but it is also possible something else could be causing this issue. Best of luck to you and Heisenberg!
