My dog keeps licking his butt. It's swollen and red. What's wrong?

HELP! my 7 year old morkie ( yorkshire and mltese mix) dog have been licking his butt all day. His anal area is swollen and red.

Lucky's anal area does look swollen and red! He could be suffering from impacted and/or infected anal sacs causing these swelling and redness, leading him to lick the area a lot. He could also have intestinal worms causing this behavior. This is something that he will need to see a vet for, as the cause needs to be diagnosed so he can be treated. In the meantime, I would put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking his anal area. You can get one at a pet store, and I can put a link below on how to make one at home. Red’s anus does look irritated and I can see some redness on the underside of his tail as well. He might be licking due to irritation from full anal glands, parasites or allergies. I would recommend having your vet examine him and check his anal glands. They may want to check a stool sample as well. Oral or topical medications might help. I would recommend putting an e-collar on to prevent licking until you can get to the vet.

My dog got her anal glands expressed yesterday but she is still licking the area and the area is red and swollen. Every minute or so she would lick the area and whine every now and then. I don’t know what to do because I’m leaving for vacation tomorr
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This swelling is very severe and warrants an evaluation by a veterinarian for further assessment. This could be related to allergies possibly causing the licking. You can use an e-collar to prevent further licking which would continue to exacerbate this swelling. You can get an e-collar online or at your local pet store. This is most likely causing her pain so pain medications can be started by your veterinarian. Also, this area has become infected and antibiotics will be needed. Good luck and have a good night!

Zelig's anal area looks quite swollen and red. He could have impacted and infected anal sacs causing him to lick there excessively and the bleeding. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Have him seen by a vet in the morning to have this treated. We got my dogs anal glands cleaned back early December 2018 and now around his butt is just all red and inflamed. He’s butt scooting and he won’t stop licking when I put preparation H on it so I bought a cone but every time I take it off of him just
I would recommend seeing a veterinarian - even though Cooper's anal glands were expressed in December it's possible that they are full again or that he has developed an infection. Keeping the e-collar on until you can see your vet is a good idea, but I wouldn't recommend Preparation H since it's unlikely to help with this problem. Allergies and intestinal parasites could also cause these signs so if Cooper's anal glands are normal your vet might want to check a stool sample.

My dog keeps licking and biting under his tail and I looked and it was a small pea sized red circle that looked wet with a tiny bit of pus coming out right next to his bum hole

Look like a localized allergic reaction, or that he's been licking it, or a combination of the two. Get him a cone to wear to stop him from licking and buy a cone. Try that for a few days. Can use benadryl if you wan to see if it helps. Can not give doses on here though, so. Hope this helps.

Thank you for providing pictures of Madden's anus for me to see. From the pictures, it could be that he has a rectal prolapse, or he could have impacted anal sacs causing this redness and swelling. The best thing to do is take him into a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing this redness and swelling, and can treat him for it. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Dog had dirarrhea now is licking her butt area is swollen any thing to do to relieve irriation
If your dog does not have diarrhea anymore you can put some baby cream or aloe vera cream on the affected area. If your dog still has diarrhea, stop feeding it for about 12 hrs then feed bland food (rice , broth, chicken) and if the diarrhea does not resolve within 2-3 days take her to your vet.

Poor girl! This could be a number of things from a benign tumor, an infection, a cancerous tumor and much more. I would first put a cone collar on her to prevent her from licking it or it will only get worse. Since the bump is really swollen and obviously bothering her, I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet will be able to determine what it is and recommend the best treatment for her. They will likely put her on antibiotics and may or may not recommend to have it surgically removed. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Bodhi seems irritated by his hind end and is licking back there. Based off your description and the pictures, Bodhi may have inflamed, infected, and/or impacted anal glands. The anal glands are two small glands located on either side of the anus, at approximately 4 and 8 o'clock (if the anus was a clock face). Normally, a small amount of secretion of these anal glands is expressed when a dog poops. However, some dogs can experience a blockage of the ducts of the glands, causing them to become obstructed and very swollen and irritating. I recommend bringing Bodhi to your veterinarian at their next available appointment. Your veterinarian can try to express his anal glands and relieve this pressure. Your veterinarian should do a thorough rectal exam to ensure there are no other irregularities present. In the meantime, if you have one at home, Bodhi should wear an Elizabethan collar (cone collar) to prevent him
