Is it safe to give my cat a flea tablet after a spot-on treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 9 lbs

Hi, I gave my cat a spot on flea treatment last night, and sprayed the house with flea spray. Would it still be safe to give her a flea tablet today for faster or extra protection, or would that be dangerous. She has flea alergy dermatitis so looking for the quickest treatment. Thanks!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Eli is super cute! The soonest you can reapply the Spot On is 3 weeks. As for mixing drugs I would need to know what oral flea pill you want to give. Ideally if Eli is flea allergic she should get flea medications every month year round. Personally I see a lot of flea resistance with the Fipronil Spot On. I recommend Bravecto (topical), Comfortis (oral) or the Seresto collar for cats. I wish Eli a speedy recovery!
