Can a breastfeeding dog with skin allergies safely take cyclosporine?

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 18 lbs

Hi.. Can cyclosporin tab can be given to a breast feeding dog.. Vet administered half a tablet per day for itching and skin allergies... Concerned about breast feeding..can i continue for 5days... Plz advice.. Tanx in adv!!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cyclosporine IS distributed in the milk and there have been no studies proving it's safety for nursing puppies. The drug is not recommended that women nurse their babies while on it. I would call your Vet to discuss an alternative. I wish you the best!
