Why does my outdoor cat get scabby, itchy nose bumps in summer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 9 lbs

My cat, TiaDalma, is a 4.5year old tortoiseshell. Every summer, she gets scabby bumps on her nose, which usually go away during winter and spring. They aren't sore but are sometimes a little itchy. She has free roam of the neighbourhood between 7am to 4pm, then is confined to the backyard until 10.30pm; when she gets locked inside. My parents think these bumps are from her love of chasing small prey into dense bushes at high speed but I think it may be something more sinister.

Poor Girl! This look a lot like wounds from chasing prey. It could also be bacterial infection from allergies. Alleriges, though, usually cause scabs else where like under the chin or around the neck. I would have your vet take a look at them as some of them look quite swollen and she may need some antibiotics. I hope this helps!
