My 3-month-old puppy is staring after a walk. Should I worry?

I took my 3 month old mini schnauzer for a walk and carried her when she cried. Since we got home about two hours ago she's been walking around, stopping while standing and staring into space. I'm getting worried

Ellie is very cute! It could be that she is very tired from the walk, or she may have been painful from the walk. You do mention she cried, so it could be the walk was a little too long for her just yet. I understand being worried about her, so I would keep an eye on her for now. If she is still showing this behavior in the morning, she cries when moving, or she develops other signs such as limping, tremors, severe lethargy, and/or GI signs such as vomiting, I would have her seen by a vet right away. Poor Ellie! It sounds like she is in a lot of pain. The stance you are describing could indicate neck or back pain. It could also be related to severe digestive pain caused by pancreatitis or infection. I'd recommend having Ellie seen by a veterinarian right away. She may need prescription pain medication to treat her condition. Please remember there are no safe over the counter pain medications for dogs so you will need to get these from a veterinarian. It could be that Ruby overexerted herself during her walk tonight, and now she is feeling a little bit of pain causing her to be in discomfort. You can try gently rubbing her legs if she will let you to see if that helps, or putting some heat in the form of a heat pad (not too hot!) to see if that helps relaxes her muscles. Do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. As long as she is otherwise normal (i.e. eating and drinking normally, went to the bathroom normally, isn't limping or appears to be in pain), then I wouldn't be too worried about her just yet. Hopefully she will settle down soon. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My 12 week cavapoo puppy really squealed when going toilet and now seems really sleepy
Not sure what happened here. A number of things can cause a pet to yelp, including inflammation of the colon (colitis), being bitten by a bug, stepping on something sharp, etc. You will have to do a good exam of your pets back end and paws to see if there is anything obvious there. If there aren't any obvious inflamed or red areas, then its best to monitor Lulu for the next 6 hrs to see if the incident happens again. Best case scenario is that this is just an isolated incident and there isn't anything serious to be concerned about. Puppies sleep all the time, so that isn't particularly worrisome either. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry to hear about Xena. So if the position you describe (with the hurt leg extended) is when she is SITTING, I am most suspicious of a torn ACL. This is especially suspicious if she will walk on 3 legs but not the injured leg. Staffies between the ages of 1 and 5 are textbook for that particular injury. If it is when she is standing, that would be an odd way to carry herself and not typical of the usual injuries. (And I would see your vet). Finally, with this information, I cannot rule out a back injury or disk problem - more likely if she truly cannot stand, even if you help her up and put her back legs under her. You don't list Xena's age but as I mentioned before, if she is young, some sort of soft tissue injury is more likely. If she is older, an arthritis flare up or other problem may be more likely. I'm sorry Remi is in pain! The amount of walking you are doing with her is ok. The rule of thumb is five minutes for every month of age max twice a day, so a 15 minute walk twice a day is fine. That being said, each dog is different, and it may be too much just yet for her. She also could have injured herself during the walk, such as straining a ligament, or she could be suffering from a disease called paneostitis. This is a painful and self-limiting condition characterized by limping and lameness. It can be common in large and giant breed dogs. I would rest Remi for the rest of the week. No walks, taking her to potty on a leash only and bring her right back in when she's done. If she is still in pain on Monday, have her seen by a vet. It's very important not to give her any human pain medications, as many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if give. Good luck, I hope this helps!

If lethargy is the only sign you are seeing at the moment, I would continue to monitor him for now as this could be just a transient thing due to discomfort from a long hike for example, among other possibilities. However, if this continues throughout the day or he develops any other signs such as inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea, have him evaluated then. Good luck!

She could have been bumped by the car or is sore from running so far after being scared. If she is suffering from a strain or sprain I would rest her and have her evaluated by your Vet Monday. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly neck or back pain. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Chico evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Chico feel better. In the meantime, reduce his activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. My dog Ellie is not putting weight on her left hind leg. She has not injured herself that I’ve seen. I first noticed it a few hours ago when she got up from laying down and it went away within a few minutes as she walked around. But then it happened
Poor Ellie! She's not putting any weight on her leg because it hurts her, and she may have strained a ligament or muscle. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps!
