There are some breeding lines of red cocker spaniel which do get aggressive when they get older. Their brain seems to grow too big for their head and so they get a head ache and this makes them aggressive. Also other pain/chronic pain can cause aggression in a dog. You really need to male an appointment with a vet for an exam to make sure he does not have a health problem. Once a physical health problem is ruled out, you should consult with a behavioral specialist who will work with you finding the cause of the aggression and how to deal with it and how to reduce the aggression in your dog. Your vet can recommend a veterinary behaviorist or you can find one here: https://avsab.org/resources/speakers-bureau/behavior-consultants-near-you/
