Cat rolls playfully, then gets upset when kitten pounces. Is it play?

This question might be hard to answet, but if anyone knows, I would appreciate it! My older cat Dusty does not get along with my other kitten Nala. Nala likes to chase Dusty or hit him. For some reason, Dusty likes to roll around on the ground in a playful way while she is in pouncing position. But when she does pounce him, he gets very upset and hits her or runs away. My question is why does he roll around on the floor? Does he secretly like playing with her? I attached photos. Thanks! Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

I actually think that Dusty likes Nala, but Nala does not understand that Dusty wants to be friendly and play. Over time they will understand each other. If Dusty did not like Nala, he would either be running away from her all the time or there would be stand-offs and cat fights and hissing matches in the house.
