My cat is licking lips, not eating, and in pain. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

For several days now, off and on, my cat has been licking his lips and acting like he is going to throw up, but doesn't. Not eating much, drinking fine, but not meowing like normal. Seems in pain some when we pick him up. Still wants to cuddle, but very sad looking. I can tell he is not feeling himself.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. If Coco is nauseated from something, it is difficult to say for sure the cause just based on the symptoms. Coco may have a systemic disease or infection going on that needs antibiotic therapy. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Coco so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend having his blood tested to be on the safe side as well. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
