My cat won't take famotidine pills. Can I dissolve them in water?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 9 lbs

My cat is 10years old, he was given famotidine 1/4 tablets but getting him to take the pills are a battle. Can I dilute the tablet in water than give him it orally?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This should be ok. The other thing that I would suggest that works great is putting them in pill pockets which you can buy from your local pet store or online. They are very palatable so they tend to like them. You could also consider using tuna or any food he really likes. Good luck and have a great day!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Booger. There is always the concern the drug could be less effective if it's composition is changed. There is a liquid suspension of famotidine available as well. Good luck!
