If your dog had rabies vaccinations as a puppy, then a booster one year later, then he would only need a rabies booster every three years, If you remember where he got his last rabies vaccination, you could call them and ask when his next booster is due.

Rabies vaccination is typically done at 12-16 weeks of age with a booster vaccine in 1 year. After that law mandates vaccination be given either annually, biennially or triennially. This is to ensure continued immunity to the virus. If a vaccinated animal comes in contact with a suspected rabid animal it is usually recommended that they receive a booster even if not due. There is no cure for rabies so vaccination is used to prevent rabies.
