Is it normal for my 9-year-old dog to be so playful and energetic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 2 months old | 4 lbs

Even though she is 9 years old she’s super playful & more energetic than I am & im 21. Shes also more playful than my grandmothers yorkie who is way bigger than Precious & like 6 years old. Is this normal for her age? Or maybe she ages slower since she is very tiny? She can chase a ball for so long until something else catches her attention, sometimes I can barely hold her back before she goes wild & she even gets mad if she can’t reach her toys. I love her playfulness Im just genuinely curious

Precious is adorable! It may simply be that she is a high energy dog, and that really has nothing to do with her size. I had a Golden Retriever that acted more likely a puppy until she was around 11 years of age and become sick. Also it sounds like she's pretty healthy if at her age she can still run around playing for long periods of team. Her health status will affect her energy levels as well. I'd say enjoy the playfulness!
