My new dog has no vet records. What health care does he need?

Hello, I recently purchased my Maltese pup from a lady in Slidell La. I have no medical papers on this pup. He is 1 year 8 months old. He will be 2 July 10 2018. How do I go about finding out what he need as far as vet care? He also has this yellow color on the back of his body. The lady used male diapers and pads for car rides. It seems as the the discoloration is for the constant wear of this puppy diaper. Please help. Thank you. Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | 1 year and 8 months old | 5 lbs

What a cutie! You are right that some skin irritation like wearing a male diaper may have caused this yellow fur. Over time this should go away since the skin looks normal in the photo. Once he's settled in I recommend a veterinary exam. If she did not give you any vaccination history he should get all his vaccinations and should have a heartworm blood test and fecal check too. They you'll know he's up to date and protected. They will probably recommend using monthly heartworm and flea prevention too depending on where you live.
