My puppy has watery, smelly diarrhea and is lethargic. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | 5 months and 18 days old | 7.055 lbs

She is suffering from diarrhea since yesterday night. The feces is watery and smelly but has no blood in it. She is not playful unlike before. What must I do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding California. Be sure to provide her with plenty of water so she does not become dehydrated. Based on her profile, she appears to be a very small dog. She will need to see her veterinarian for fecal testing and a medication. In the meantime, it is generally safe for a puppy to be fed half of a normal meal size. Providing less food will rest the GI tract a bit and potentially resolve the diarrhea. I hope this information helps!
