My cat vomited undigested food and has green stool. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 9.5 lbs

My cat vomited undigested food last night and again today. Her faeces looked a greenish colour this morning, but are not loose. Should I be concerned? She's playing, eating and drinking normally.

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Vomiting is sometimes seen with conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis and chronic kidney disease, among many other conditions. Given Leia's young age and the fact that she is otherwise doing fine, dietary indiscretion appears more likely. It may be something as easy as just changing her diet to something that she can tolerate better. However, an examination by a veterinarian as well as minimal diagnostic data would be needed to rule out more concerning things. You can start by changing her diet to a sensitive stomach type diet. If no improvement, have her examined by a veterinarian to start therapy if needed based on findings. Good luck!

I would not be too concerned right now. The green is likely just some bile staining and does not necessarily indicate that anything is wrong. If she continues to vomit over night and tomorrow, then I'd recommend a visit to the vet. If she is otherwise eating, drinking and acting normal, then I would not worry too much about this unless it keeps happening on a daily basis. I hope that helps and all is good with Minu.
