Is playing cat sounds bad for my cat, or does it mean he's lonely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 5 lbs

My cat Frankie is the only cat of the house for now and is pretty quiet, only meowing occasionally. When I played cat sounds on video today he responded with back to back meows! It broke my heart, it bad for me to play cat sounds? Does this make him lonely?

No, it's not bad to play cat sounds when Frankie is around! He's likely just responding to the sounds, and it doesn't mean he is lonely. My cats will respond to cat sounds on video, and because I have four cats, they definitely aren't lonely! If you do feel, however, that he would benefit from having another cat in the house, then maybe you should look into getting another one. He may really enjoy having the company! I hope this helps.
