My mallard hen is sitting on eggs and not eating. Is this normal?

I have a female mallard sitting on eggs and has been for about 4 days and my mom went out to check and she doesn't seem to be responding to food being put near her it is her first nest that she is sitting on

It is quite common for a broody hen to not eat. You may need to physically lift her off the eggs and place her in or near water and near food. She will likely eat, drink and defecate then quickly return to the nest and eggs.
