Why is my intact male rabbit mounting my cat? Will neutering help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 4 days old | 5 lbs

I just adopted an intact 1 year old male Rex rabbit who is trying to mount my female cat. Is that because he is still intact or is it some other problem. Will that behavior be fixed once he is neutered? Thank you so much for your time!

It may be due to him being intact. Neutering may help, but will not be a quick "off button". It will take several weeks for testosterone levels to decrease. When you see him mounting, immediately correct him. Be consistent and be firm.If he persists, move him to another room until he settles down.
