My dog died. How do I overcome fear of another pet dying too?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 8 months and 14 days old | 29 lbs

We had an 8 month old border collie diagonised with Dysautonomia this past week. She did not survive. We are afraid to get another dog because of the one that just died.

I am so sorry you lost your dog. Dysautonomia is not that common, however it is more common in Missouri and Kansas for unknown reasons.. Give yourself some time to grieve. I think you should get another dog some day and not be afraid that your new dog will also get it. I do not really know how else to alleviate your fear. If there were many cases of this disease then nobody could risk getting another dog and if you look around you I am sure you can find many people with healthy dogs. So, take your time, I am sure a healthy dog will find you.
