Kitten not drinking. Is tuna broth safe, or will he drink too much?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 months and 4 days old | 4 lbs

I usually see my kitten eating but not drinking, this worried me into thinking he wasnt drinking enough water. So I put some tuna broth into his water bowl which caused him to drink water more. But I heard cats dont need to drink a lot of water, so will anything bad happen from him now drinking more water frequently? And if I stop adding tuna broth into his water bowl will he stop drinking water?

Cats do not like their drinking water close to their food, so you should move the drinking water bowl at least 6ft away from the food. If Bandit eats mainly wet food he will drink less as well than if he only eats dry food. The problem with tuna broth is that it may be salted, so it would be better not to add that to his drinking water. Try moving the water away from the food. Make sure the water is always fresh and clean. Also cats prefer running water, so a water fountain may also solve the problem.
