My guinea pig has pneumonia and isn't eating. How can I save him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 6 days old

My Guniea Pig has been diagnosed with Pnumonia. He’s was injected with Batril yesterday and today he was no better and now not eating or drinking. I took him again today and they injected Colvasone and they give me some Colvasone recovery. If he’s no better by Monday I have to take him back and I presume possibly have him put to sleep. I’m absolutely devastated and just wanted to know if there is anything more I could be doing to give him a fighting chance and help nurse him back to good health.

I am so sorry to hear this. Make sure you are supplying with vitamin C if you aren’t already. Also keep the cage very clean as the ammonia from urine is irritating to the respiratory tract. Of course if you can get any nutrition in him that would be helpful too. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
