My dog has a mass. How long for biopsy results & what could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 2 months old | 4 lbs

I took precious to get a bump looked at. The doctor looked at the blood under a microscope & she said it was definitely a mass of some sort. However, she isnt trained to diagnose that type. She said all of the cells were all of the same thing. Precious will get it removed. How long will it take to get the result? Since the blood has been drawn it has gotten softer. What could this possibly be? Precious pays no Attention to it. Shes had it since june of last year & has only grown a tiny bit.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Precious! Usually biopsy samples take 7 business days to come back, sometimes a day or so sooner. Sadly many masses can look the same even benign and cancerous ones. Possibilities are: mast cell tumor, hemangioma and may other things. I think it is a good idea to get the mass removed so you know what it is and whether you have to worry pat the surgery. I wish Precious the best!
