Why is my Cocker Spaniel's eye suddenly cloudy, blue, and watery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Female | unspayed | 32 lbs

Our normally healthy 6yo Cocker spaniel has suddenly got a problem with her right eye. It’s very watery and appears to be cloudy blue when she has very dark hazelnut colour normally. We have been bathing it daily in Optrex type solution .

It sounds like she may have injured the surface of the eye such as from a scratch - the cloudy blue is swelling in the cornea of clear part of the front of the eye. Please have her checked urgently to identify and treat the underlying cause and pain as well as to reduce the risk of long term scarring
