Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 10 days old | 15 lbs
My puppy had already had her first set of vaccines before she came down with parvo. She was sick for about a week straight and today has been one week since her last diarrhea / vomiting episode. I have a follow up vet appointment in 2 days and i think they plan on giving here the next set of vaccines. Is this a bad idea since shes only been without symptoms for 1 week? Thanks in advance. -Donna

Interesting question! Parvo virus can attack the immune system which is a double edged sword - it may make her less able to respond effectively to the vaccine but could also leave her more vulnerable to contracting the other diseases against which the vaccine should protect against. She will have developed some immunity from parvo during her recovery but I would recommend discussing the local risks in your area with your local vet - if other diseases are very common then vaccinating now and again in a month may be advisable but if they are less common in your area and you are able to keep her confined to your own yard then delaying vaccination may be possible also. A blood count to assess how low her white blood count is may also help with decision making
