Why is my girl cat rejecting the new kitten, but my boy cat isn't?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

About a little over a month ago, a small skinny cat came to me. So I took it in and had her checked out before letting her with the other cats. I already have 1 boy and one girl cat and this new cat is a little bit smaller and younger. My boy cat loves this new kitty but not so with the girl cat. These cats were seperated at least a week and a half before seeing face to face. How come my boy cat loves this new kitty but not the girl??

It is not uncommon for animals of the same sex to take longer to become friendly with one another than animals of the opposite sex. I find it to be more common in females than in males. They may see each other as competition for the male's attention. It may also be a simple territorial action that your established cat is making. I would consider perhaps a continued slow introduction to one another under your supervision. Cats be trained just as dogs (a little harder) with positive reinforcement. Whenever your kitties are acting nicely, they should be rewarded with praise, toys, and treats. Hope this helps!
