Why is my senior dog throwing up all week? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 years and 3 months old | 45 lbs

Hello, My dog has been throwing up all week. She is eleven years old. She has been throwing up little bits, mostly acid until today. I fed her a smaller portion than I normally do just in case she was maybe eating too much or too fast, but today she threw up all of her food from earlier. Help please. What could this be due to? She is a pit terrier

In a senior dog, there can be a number of serious causes of vomiting including liver disease, kidney failure, diabetes, and cancer to name a few. It's very concerning that she is has been vomiting all week, and that can quickly lead to dehydration. While dehydration is serious in dogs of all ages, it's especially concerning in a senior dog because their organs do not function as well as they did when Roxy was younger. Because she has been vomiting all week, I would consider this situation an emergency. She needs to see a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
