Why is my dog lethargic, sneezing, and has red eyes and a hot head?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 65 lbs

Doc has been a bit lethargic, red eyes, sneezing multiple times a day and has been irritable more than usual to our puppy (although this could be due to me just getting him pig ears since he tends to be protective of those but only to our puppy). Tonight his head felt hotter than usual (of course I’m always cold so I can’t be totally sure). He’s been eating and drinking fine and does play a bit here and there. About 3-4 days ago, he did vomit a bit but it was once and hasn’t done it since.

It sounds like from your description that Doc Brown is sick, and I would be thinking that he could be suffering from a respiratory infection or allergies. Feeling sick would lead him to be more irritable as well, and it is possible he could have a fever. A dog's normal temperature is 101-102.5F, and anything above 102.5F is a fever. I'd have him seen by a vet in the next day or two. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can prescribe medication to treat him. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Your dog could have an upper respiratory infection, a neurological condition, could have reacted badly to something she has come into contact with, such as a cleaner, she may have contracted something from contact with another dog, there are a number of possibilities. These symptoms are serious enough that she should be seen by your vet right away. They will do an exam, labwork, possibly x-rays, and based on these results, your vet will have a better idea what is wrong with her and how best to treat it.

My dog's eyes have been watery and red. She's been acting very down, and not herself. She's also been drinking lots of water.
Red and watery eyes may indicate an issue such as an allergy to something, or even illness such as respiratory issues. You may see additional signs such as fever, lethargy, loss of appetite or even nasal discharge. An increase in drinking water may be related, or may just be an attempt to stay hydrated if your dog is dehydrated from not feeling well (you can check this by gently pinching the loose skin on the back of your dog's neck- if it is quick to go back to normal, your dog is hydrated, if it is slow or sticky in returning back to normal, it is an indication of dehydration). If her symptoms do not resolve within the next day or so, or if she shows additional signs of illness or worsening of already seen symptoms, then scheduling a veterinary checkup is best.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There is no way to know if there is a fever without a thermometer. Based on what you are describing, it sounds like he is quite sick. He should ideally be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. If you are unable to have him evaluated tonight, make sure to do so as soon as possible tomorrow. A fever could be due to many reasons like pancreatitis, an infection, among many other possibilities. Treatment would be based on findings but at the very least they can start him on fluids which can help with a fever. If possible, have him evaluated tonight so that they can start looking for possible reasons to explain his symptoms but most importantly, so that therapy can be initiated. Poor Cobalt! It sounds like he is lethargic, and he does have a slight fever. Unfortunately these are very general signs of illness, and could be caused by systemic illness, infection, or inflammation. I would keep an eye on him for now, and if the fever goes above 39.5, he stops eating, he continues to be lethargic, or he develops other signs such as vomiting, take him into a vet immediately. Hey, I used a thermometer and my digs temperature was 104.1 then I checked a few hours later and now it's 100.1. Does my dog have a fever and if so what can I do besides take him to the vet? His nose was dry and now it's a bit wetter. I'm worried he
If your dog had been exercising or out in the heat it is possible his temperature could have increased due to this, but 104.1 is a pretty high temperature if you feel it was truly an accurate reading. We can see dogs temperatures get that high if they are really hot/excited/stressed and they are overweight or brachycephalic (smoosh faced) but I am concerned that his energy level was decreased. If he still doesn't seem himself tomorrow then I would bring him in for an exam. If overnight his temperature gets very high again, or he becomes weak, has trouble breathing, or his gums become pale in color or he starts having other symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea then I would consider bringing him in to the emergency vet.

My Pitbull puppy, four months of age suddenly developed a high temperature and extremely red watery eyes. He is also very weak but his appetite is normal and he is drinking water. I don't know if he just has a cold. Any advice?
A high fever and lethargy should be addressed by your veterinarian. In a puppy this young they will want to rule out disease processes such as the Parvovirus, and will likely want to obtain some blood work. While it could be a simple cold, typically these do not cause high fevers. Antibiotic therapy may be required if there is an infection.

Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco. I recommend that you take your dog to see a veterinarian. It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Your veterinarian will perform a full physical exam and determine what additional testing may need to be done (xrays, bloodwork) to give you a better idea of what treatments are needed. Good luck.

I'm sorry all your dogs are suddenly sick! Thank you for providing pictures of one of your dogs. From the picture of the teeth, I see areas of redness, but they appear to me to be localized around the teeth itself. It makes me think those red areas may be due to gingivitis, but without seeing your pups in person, I can't say for certain. When I hear that all dogs in a family have suddenly gotten ill, I think that they have either gotten into something rotten or something toxic. Given that all your dogs are ill, the best thing to do is have them seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing their symptoms, and can treat them. This sign could be compatible with a severe upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or eventually to a chronic rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). Lethargy, changes in behavior and possible fever are usually signs of something concerning going on such as systemic infections, pancreatitis, immune-mediated conditions, among many other conditions. If she is otherwise eating and drinking well and she was doing perfectly fine before your guests arrive, it may be something transient. However, given that she is acting so abnormally and there is concern for a possible fever, I recommend that you check her temperature rectally when she is calm. You can use a regular thermometer from your local pharmacy or you may already have it at home. If her temperature is more than 102.5F, have her evaluated right away as that could be something serious. If normal (99.5-102.5F) and really was fine before your guests arrived, and she is otherwise doing fine with normal appetite and water intake, you can continue to monitor her for another 24 hours and if not improved then have her examined.
