My dog has a dark red mark on his chest and is whining. Is he in pain?

My dog has this red mark that appeared on his chest 2 days ago not sure if it from being tied up when people are over which isn't often or long but don't know if it's from that or allergies or what can you please help is this something I should be concerned about its dark red almost looks like a burise past couple nights he has been whining more. usually whines for attention I pet him he stops last 2 nights he keeps whining even though I'm petting him he acts like him self other than that. Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 79 lbs

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Hercules. If he was tied up, he could have been pulling against the rope, leading to that red mark. Now it could also be from something else like a rash, and if he's whining, that could mean he is in pain. I think it's best you have him checked out by a vet, and I would take him into one this weekend. I hope this helps!
