Should I worry about my dog's purple scrotum or testicle placement?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Eskimo Dog | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 8 months old | 16 lbs

My dog has his testicles along his penis sheath, and his scrotum is a deep purple, we just noticed the testicular placement but his scrotum has been a deep purple since he was just a few weeks old, his is now 2. He has fathered a litter of puppies successfully with no issues and is not fixed. We are concerned the awkward testicular placement could hurt him.

What you may be seeing is his bulbus glandis. They are two glands located at the base of the penis on both sides. They function during mating to effect the tie while mounting a female. This is normal and likely no cause for concern. The pigmentation of his scrotum may also be normal. You can have him seen by your veterinarian to discuss any concerns regarding either.
