Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 11 months old | 9 lbs
My cat has feline interstitial idiopathic cystitis and is usually pretty good with dealing with it. He has a wet food diet, drinks lots of water and has his own litter box (all of these were suggested by my veterinarian). Today I noticed when he sat down that he is leaving something that is a goopy tan color, it almost looks like snot and there is a little blood in it. I was wondering if this can be fixed at home or if I need to take him to the veterinarian? Thank you!

This could be mucus in his stool or possibly material from his anal glands. If he is behaving normally, you can offer a bland diet for a few days and minimize stress as much as possible. If the discharge worsens or if Napoleon becomes lethargic, develops diarrhea, stops eating or starts vomiting, then you should have him examined by your veterinarian. A pheromone product, such as Feliway spray or plug in diffusers, may help to decrease any anxiety or stress.
