How to stop my conure from biting and being moody during molting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Conure | Male | 7 months and 15 days old

I have a 7 month old conure. Recently when I go to put him back in his cage he jumps out of my hand when I go to put him in. I go to pick him up and he doesn’t let me and tries to bite. I was wondering how I can stop this behavior? I really try my best to have him get enough sleep and attention. Lately he just seems very moody. He is also moulting.

Thanks for reaching out about Rico. Try training to approach the cage, giving a reward, and setting down near the cage. Then go another step, work it slowly. Its all works around trust. Birds are generally grumpy during molting, so attitude might change when molting complete. Good luck.
