My cat attacked me after grooming. Is it safe to let him in my room?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 15 lbs

My cat got really angry at me, hissing and growling and tried to attack me after a grooming session. He seemed normal but then flipped and did the same. He seems normal again should I let him in my room??

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. You may have groomed a spot where he was painful or maybe used the brush too hard in an area would be one possibility. Another is that he was just telling you he didn't want to be groomed. Some cats can be absolutely fine and then all of a sudden flip a switch and they will attack for no apparent reason. I would keep an eye on Alfie and if this behavior continues, take him in to be examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
