My cat is weak, has diarrhea, and won't eat. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 1 day old

Yesterday morning I found my cat laying on the wet grass, so weak with some liquid pooped attached underneath her tail. she won't eat but is ok to drink some amount of water. she looked dying yesterday but now she's starting to show some progress. she can walk, jump and show interest with toys though she's still weak. what can I do to help her ease her pain?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on your description, I am quite concerned she may be dehydrated and may have some systemic disease or infection going on. I would have a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions / concerns and I would be happy to help further.

Poor Demi, unfortunately when diarrhoea continues for a few days dehydration can occur. At this point I would take Demi to the vet as she may need fluids and will need an examination to find out why this is occurring. The vet should be able to administer medication to help settle her tummy down. I would urge you to go to the vet as soon as possible.
