Can I drain my senior cat's eyelid cyst at home if it doesn't bother her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 21 years and 9 months old | 5 lbs

My cat is 21 and is very well. She has a cyst on eye lid which doesn't bother her. I am wondering if i could stab it with a pin. It is soft like. I am an RN and vet has seen it but never bothered with it. It looks non threatening but as if it is full of fluid. If i stab it, i am pretty positive fluid would come out. i would have to watch for infection. what do you think?

HI there. If the cyst isn't bothering Fi, I would recommend just leaving it alone. Attempting to drain it yourself at home may be painful for her, and could introduce infection and create a problem where there isn't one right now. If it starts to bother her, I would suggest taking her back to the vet to have it rechecked, and see what he/she recommends.
