Can I give my cat dewormer at home even if I don't see worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 13 years and 6 months old | 13 lbs

I'm not positive if my older cat has worms. Buy my question is can I still give my cat deworming products at home whether she has worms or not?

Hello. If your cat goes outdoors at all, or has problems with fleas, it is not wrong to be proactive in preventing intestinal parasites. We basically do this when we administer monthly heartworm preventative to cats ( & dogs ). So yes, it is OK to worm your cat, at least a couple of times a year with a broad spectrum wormer. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
