Why does my puppy have red, pus-filled bumps on his body and genitals?

My puppy has little red bumps all over his body and one on his genitals. They seem to have some pus in them and they range from his genital area and his belly all the way up by his neck

Poor puppy. Kai has what appears to be a contact dermatitis or puppy pyoderma. This is usually caused by something coming in contact with the skin, such as urine, or is simply due to your pet still developing its immune system and being vulnerable to infections. This is usually easily treated with a short course of antibiotics prescribed by your vet. I would recommend scheduling an appt with your vet for Kai to get this resolved. Until you can get Kai seen, you can gently cleanse the skin with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water. I hope that Kai's skin infection clears up well soon! Best wishes and take care. : )

    It sounds like Kai may have a common skin infection called puppy pyoderma. Sometimes if there are just a few it can be treated with medicated shampoo, but if there are lots of pustules then he may need oral antibiotics. I noticed this raised red bump/lump on my dogs lower stomach. It oozes puss when gently squeezed.
Was there supposed to be a picture attached to this? Puppies tend to get skin infections pretty commonly. We even refer to it as “puppy pyoderma”. If it just looks like a pimple then that is likely what it is. If it is much larger or if there are several on the body then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if he needs antibiotics. Otherwise bathing in an antimicrobial shampoo such as chlorhexidine or salicylic acid can be helpful. These can be found in the dandruff section of any human shampoo aisle. My 6 month old golden has red bumps in genital/tummy area. Any at home treatment I can try? It doesn't seem to bother her
This is a fairly common issue with young dogs and often referred to as puppy pyoderma. The dogs will get a small skin infection in the inguinal region. I recommend a medicated shampoo 2 time a week and an anti histamine. If this does not cause it to resolve you will need to take her to a vet for antibiotics. I would monitor her skin closely and if it looks worse or has any hair loss I would recommend taking her to the vet to evaluate for parasites and other skin issues.

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!

I'm caring for a 2 week old puppy (estimated) he hasn't opened his eyes or ears yet. His been to the vet and was cleaned of a over powering amount of ticks. He drinks well and wees, we have trouble getting him to poop and now on his belly small pus f
It looks like you've done a lot to help this little guy. I'm sure the vet would have told you this, but make sure you are stimulating him to poop after each feeding by wiping his bum with a warm, moist, tissue or soft cloth. Puppies commonly get this on their bellies and they usually go away with good cleaning. I recommend cleaning the belly with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bump(s) are gone. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take him into the vet for an exam. My puppy just got random little red bumps scattered on her belly. It happened within an hour. Friends are telling me it's either pyoderma, or heat (Bc it's hot), or it's flea bites(which I highly doubt as it popped out of nowhere.)
This looks most like a bacterial infection. Sometimes a pet medicated shampoo helps but other times antibiotics from your veterinarian sre needed. If it spreads, doesn't respond to a shampoo, or there's any increasing redness it should be looked at by a veterinarian

I have a 5 week old puppy. We just moved to our new apartment several days ago and today i noticed these pimple like bumps around her genital area and stomach.one photo is taken on aug 10 from when she didnt have this. should I be concerned?
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Neela and for providing pictures, they are very helpful. It looks like she may have puppy pyoderma, which is a skin infection. The skin of the puppy is quite sensitive, and it can be common for them to get this skin infection around the genital area and stomach. This does need to be treated by a vet, she needs antibiotics, so I recommend you make an appointment for her to see her vet this week to get it treated. I hope this helps!

Our dog has gotten little white rash looking bumps on his stomach, a little over 2 months old and now it's spread to his sisters
This is called puppy pyoderma. It’s a mild skin infection that puppies often get. You can bathe the area with anti bacterial shampoo every few days and that should clear it up. If it is getting worse or the puppies seem sick then bring them in for a exam and treatment. They may need oral antibiotics. Also make sure the bedding is soft and dry. Red bumps all on him I have no idea what it could be need help
Poor Tank! That rash looks pretty severe. It could be something like an allergic reaction, scabies, flea allergy or a severe case of puppy pyoderma. Because there are several conditions that can look like this and they all require different treatment, I recommend to take Tank in to see his veterinarian. The doctor will examine him and try to determine the cause for all those lesions. It’s likely he will get an anti-inflammatory and antibiotics. If parasites are suspected, he will get a treatment for those as well. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My dog is a 12 week old German Shepherd and she has puss-filled pimples on her belly. Is that something I should be concerned about or is it something that will go away in a few days?
Congratulations on your new puppy! We commonly see a skin infection in puppies that we call "puppy pyoderma". It is a skin infection of the normal bacteria on a puppy's skin. Every case is different. Sometimes we need to treat them with topical wipes or shampoos, and sometimes we prescribe oral antibiotics. I would recommend having your vet evaluate Emma and decide on the right treatment plan for her. I have included a link to general pyodermas below.
