Hello, the heat cycle occurs in several stages and not all dogs will exhibit similar signs. Some dogs will develop vulvar swelling anytime from the onset of bleeding to 1 week after bleeding. Some dogs may not have vulvar swelling or it maybe minimal swelling that it is hard to notice. If you are planning on breeding her, to determine the best time, you may check her progesterone levels with your primary care veterinarian or allow her to stop bleeding before bringing in a male. Hope this helps and best of luck.
