Adopted dog, no vet records. Can I get them or re-vaccinate my puppy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 months and 19 days old | 15 lbs

hello. I recently adopted a dog from a rescue. They are now ignoring me and not responding when attempting to get medical records. My puppy is clearly fixed and they stated he had two rounds of shots. Can I contact the previous vet for these records? Also, if I do not get them would he need to start the rounds of vaccinations again?

In most cases, you'll need owner permission in order for records to be transferred over, so while you can contact the vet, you may not be able to obtain full records. That said, they may at least be able to confirm neuter/vaccine status for you so you can let your vet know. If you can't get any records, you can also have your current vet perform a titer test to see where Wooly's immunity levels are, and then booster vaccines from there.
