My cat caught a bat. Its wing is injured. How can I help it fly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, I'm Jaya and I'm from the Philippines. It's 8:00 in the evening and my cat just caught a fruit bat from the empty neighboring house. It's currently sleeping in a dark room in the house. Its right wing is injured, swollen near the armpit, plus a scratch on the outside elbow from my cat catching it. What should I do in terms of feeding it or caring for the swollen part so it can fly again?

Thanks for reaching out about the bat and including photos. Cat bites and scratches are notorious for causing infections so a veterinary or wildlife rescue group, is highly recommended. If the swelling is due to a fracture, that need to be set or else won't be able to fly and eat. Good luck.
