Why does my cat have chronic diarrhea, vomiting, and thickened bowel?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed

Hi My 9YO DLH female cat is having chronic Diarrhea for almost 1.5 years now and occasional vomiting. Her poo is always black colour. We had a specialist ultrasound done recently and they found that her small colon (Jejunum) wall is thickened (milt to moderate 3.7cm). Dr told me it could be food intolerance, IBD or low grade Lymphoma 1) can it be a parasite that causing the wall thickening? 2) How long a cat will live with low grade lymphoma after first symptom ( having the symptoms 1.5 yrs)

The thickening of the jejunum is not likely to be parasite related but, of course, anything is possible. It is more likely to be IBD or lymphoma. I cannot give you a prediction on life span without having more information. Did the vet recommend an intestinal biopsy? That would be needed to get an exact diagnosis. Did the vet give you any medications for her? Here is an article about lymphoma in cats. It may give you more information. ( https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951906 )
