My cat has missing skin or a sore on its mouth/chin. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 14 lbs

My cat has skin missing on part of his mouth. And now it looks like part of his chin. Unsure if it is a sore...does he need to go to the vet?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sam. Yes, I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. The wound could be the result of a condition known as an indolent ulcer. If so, it will require treatment before it progresses any more. This condition is typically the result of an allergy to something in the environment, diet or even fleas. I hope this information helps!
