My dog's nails are brittle, breaking, and cracking. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 120 lbs

My dogs nails are constantly breaking. He refuses to let me cut them often so they do get long sometimes, but they just seem so weak. Even when I cut them it’s like they’re cracking. What can I do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Brando. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. There are diseases that can leave the toe nails brittle. If he is healthy, then a fatty acid supplement may help. I hope this information helps!
