My dog has pain, swollen belly, discharge after pyometra surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 15 lbs

Daria has her pyometra surgery on 10/22 and I noticed she’s been more sleepy and in pain today and her stomach is bulging out a bit more then usual. She has some discharge on her staples and I thought it was dirt but when I touched it she flinched. Is this bad ?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Daria. If she is not acting normal, this is worrisome. She should not be getting more painful this many days out from surgery. It is worth having her rechecked by a veterinarian. In the meantime, keep the incision clean and dry. Do not allow her to lick it. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!
