Is my cat a Birman or Burmese? What breed-specific health issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Birman | Male | neutered | 8 years and 3 months old | 12 lbs

I am unsure of my cat's breed. I was told he is a Burmese, but I suspect he looks more like a Birman. He was born with a short tail. He had white paws when he was young, but at around 1 year the white disappeared. I want to know about his breed bcs I would like to know if there are any breed-specific illnesses he is prone to, and what supplements/diet I can give to try to prevent those. Thank you in advance! :)

Gucci is gorgeous! He is definitely not a Bermese. He does look like a Birman or even a Ragdoll. Feed him a high quality cat food. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to prevent illnesses in cats, but regular health checks with the vet are recommended, and taking him into the vet whenever he shows a sign of illness.
