Why is my cat so clingy and always on me? Is this normal behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat has been super clingy lately. If I try practicing on piano for more than a minute or two, she hops up onto my keyboard and shoves her body onto my hands. If I'm eating, she's right there, pushing her head against my chin. When I get ready to go to bed, she often lays on me. Anywhere on me is good for her. My side, thighs, stomach, chest. If she's not on me, she's right by me. Could she just be happy and expressing that or could something be wrong? Mentally.

That sounds like normal cat behavior. She is very comfortable with you and loves you. If you can't have her bothering you, like when you are practicing piano, it is best to put her in another room until you are done. I don't think there is anything wrong with her as long as she is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This sudden change in behavior could be due to Trouble being uncomfortable from something. With her age, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her and test her blood and urine for any abnormal changes. If everything comes back normal, this may just be behavioral. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
