Is it risky to neuter a 3-year-old dog with undescended testicle?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 12 lbs

Hello, my dog is almost 3 years old and has not been neutered. I need to neuter him because one of his balls did not descend. Since he is almost 3 years of age I am concerned of the health risks. I know I need to neuter him anyways but I still would like to know the risks because of his age so I can prepare myself, can you help me with that?

Three is a perfectly fine at to neuter a dog! Elliot isn't a senior dog, and as long as he is healthy, the risks are minimal, just the usual ones for any surgery such as infection and excessive bleeding. Have him seen by a vet to get him neutered. I hope this helps.
