Why is my dog's stool loose and mucousy? What are the dietary causes?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund (Wire Haired) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 14 lbs

Our 4 year old wirehaired doxy has loose mucoussy stool several days a week. What are some of the possible dietary causes?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. It is possible that Sophie has a dietary indiscretion to the current diet or treats you are feeding her. I would recommend trying a different meat protein and see if this helps or try a sensitive stomach formula to see if this helps as well. Sometimes switching to a completely different brand helps as well. If the problem persists, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her stool for fecal parasites just to be on the safe side.
