My dog ate marshmallows (no xylitol). What should I do for his upset belly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 16 years and 9 months old | 20 lbs

My dog (13 years old, Boston Terrier/Pug mix) ate a bag of mini marshmallows overnight. There is NO xylitol in it. He's a bit uncomfortable now, but is drinking some water and moving around the house like normal. What do I need to do? His belly is a bit bigger than usual, but not hard

Rio is probably pretty uncomfortable from all that sugar and calories! I would pick up his regular food for a few hours, then offer a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice to help settle any stomach upset. If he starts to act very ill such as vomiting a lot, diarrhea for more than a day or so, blood in either, a painful to touch abdomen, or attempting to vomit or defecate without being able to, bring him into your vet ASAP for care as these are all signs of something more serious.
